Myth
and Magic, The Beginning.
The Watson Group Ltd. has been manufacturing
metal products in the Birmingham area of England for over eighty
years. Originally it focused on costume jewellery, but changed
its concentration to fine metal gift-ware items. The Tudor Mint
Ltd., a subsidiary of Watson, was founded, and in 1989 created
the first twelve Myth and Magic studies. The figurines were an
instant success. In appreciation for all collectors, a yearly
'Extravaganza' show is hosted by The Tudor Mint Ltd. with approximately
800-1200 collectors in attendance.
Wizards, Dragons and Unicorns
Myth and Magic products are
studies of medieval figures and characters from English folklore,
expertly and artistically detailed in antique, silver plate metal,
embellished with genuine crystals. The studies form the base of
the product lines for distribution in the United States by The
Tudor Mint Inc. The collection consists of Small,
Medium
and Large
Studies complimented by Trinket
Boxes, Chess
sets, Candlesticks,
Clocks and Windchimes
Land of the Dragons
Following the success of the
Pewter and Crystal ranges of fantasy figures The Tudor
Mint launched a range of resin figures under the collective
title of The Land of the Dragons. These highly
detailed studies now form a major part of the Tudor Mint range.
Dragons were grouped into seperate collections each one incorporating
the same striking mixture of colours which not only produced stunning
and dramatic collections but also made the figurines adaptable
for display within the home complimenting room colours and themes.
With new ranges introduced regularly, the current list of Land
of the Dragons collections include the original collections of
Woodland Dragons,
Mountain
Dragons, Desert
Dragons,
Land
of Ice Dragons, Land
of Fire Dragons, Land
of Glaciers Dragons and Land
of Snow Dragons. The second
set of dragons introduced after the initial success of the first
collection includes Amethyst
Dragons, Citrine
Dragons, Flying
Dragons, Lava
Dragons, Sapphire
Dragons, Celestrial
Dragons, Imperial
Dragons and Gothic
Dragons. The newest collection in the Land of the Dragons
is The
New Beginning. but with
the ever growing popularity of these finely modeled and detailed
collections it is only the beginning.
The Collector's Club was formed in response to the ever increasing
number of collectors, elevating products from the fine gift-ware
status to that of highly desirable collectibles. Interest quickly
spread to the United States and the pewter and resin figurines
are now collected worldwide.
Unicons and Fairies
There is a touch of the darkside
to many of the Myth and Magic and Land of the Dragons studies
but there is also the gentler and magical world of fantasy represented
in the new resin figures. The pewter and crystal studies had always
included a number of pieces which showed both Unicorns and Fairies
and this theme was carried over into the resin collections with
a seperate collection of figurines showing Unicorns
and Fairies.
Lord of the Rings
Before the phenominal success
of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy The Tudor Mint had been
making pewter and crystal studies of the characters and scenes
from the J R R Tolkien books. The
Lord of the Rings collection is now highly collectable
in its own right and also includes a Chess
set populated by the best known characters..
Crystal Momentos
New to The Tudor Mint in 2004
is the Crystal
Momentos Range which combines the fine metal work of
the pewter sudies with the highly coloured decoration of the Land
of the Dragons.
Dragonets
The Tudor Mint have always
incorporated a number of more humerous studies into their ranges
and were keen to launch a range of pocket money dragons for younger
collectors and those who enjoyed the whimsical world of fantasy
and magic. A range of dragonets were launched, many designed to
represent special occassions such as birthdays, exam success etc.
The Dragonets are produced in 4 main colours:
Ice Dragonets, Fire
Dragonets, Amethyst
Dragonets and Sun
Dragonets.
