In Greek mythology dragons
are traditionally the guardians of temples and treasures. The
Goddess, Hera, enlisted the help of Draco to protect the golden
apples which she had presented as a wedding gift to Zeus, but
in carrying out his task, Draco was tragically slain by Hercules.
Outraged, Hera rewarded Draco's faithfulness by lifting him up
into the sky to be remembered forever as a constellation and to
be seen by all for eternity as the dragon winds and twists around
the North Celestial Pole.

The Celts assosiate dragons
as beasts conected with Sovereigns or Royalty. After claiming
his crown, King Arthur took the name "Pendragon" which
means "Head Dragon", a title which reinforces his status
as Warrior-King and represented stregth, honour and justice. This
noble beast is embobied with that sovereign strength and in the
Imperial Dragon the Land of the Dragons finds its Sovereign.

In the dark winter months
of 793 the monks of Lindisfarne, a small island of the north-east
coast of England saw fiery dragons in the sky. This was takes
as a portent of doom and sure enough, a little later in that same
year, the Vikings raided the island, sacking the monastery and
looting the monks' treasures.
